About Us

Ellis Moving and Storage was founded by Buster Ellis in 1918 here in Nashville. In 1958, Robert Johnson and his mother Nannie Lee purchased the company from Buster Ellis. Robert was at the helm until his death in July of 2004. The company expanded under his leadership, Mr. Johnson was a CPA by trade and a mover by passion. The current facility that we reside in was built in 1997 to handle the company's growth. Our current building is a modern, secure structure consisting of 60,000 of storage space.

After the passing of Mr. Johnson, the company was managed by his estate. One of Mr. Johnson's wishes is that the company continues to operate. He was very proud of the company.

Ellis Moving and Storage will be celebrating 90 years in business in 2008, a milestone in itself.

In 2006, Ellis Moving and Storage joined forces with the National Van Lines network of agencies. National Forwarding, a division of National Van Lines, manages the companies Department of Defense Motor Carrier.

Ellis further expanded with the opening of Ellis Archives in 1997 for record storage. Ellis also maintains its own 48 state hauling authority with our own tariff.

Ellis Moving and Storage and Ellis Archives takes extreme pride in meeting our customer's needs here in Nashville and abroad. We have enjoyed our long term relationships with our customers, Correction Corporations of America (CCA), Opryland Hotel, Vought Aircraft and Fort Campbell.
